An Introduction to Managing Lifting Operations Safely

Intended For Managers and Supervisors, who oversee lifting operations.
Course Aims To introduce candidates to the relevant Health and Safety Legislation and basic preventative measures to ensure Lifting Operations are managed safely.
Course Objectives On completion of the course delegates will be able to:


- Appraise lifting operations to ensure they are planned and conducted safely by others
- State the general requirements of The Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations and associated legislation pertinent to managing Lifting Operations
- Identify relevant reports and records required to ensure lifting appliances and equipment comply with current standards
- Recognise common unsafe working practices and faults with Lifting Operations

Course Content As follows:


- Definitions, Duties and Application of the Regulations
- The Broad Managerial Responsibilities and Requirements from the Following Legislation Applicable to Lifting: Health & Safety at Work etc. Act 1974, The Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2007, The Management of Health & Safety at Work Regulations 1999, The Reporting of Injuries, Diseases and Dangerous Occurrences Regulations 1995

- Application and Scope of the Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations 1998


- Contractor and Safety Document Evaluation
- Hazard Spotting and Risk Assessment
- Short test

Presentation The course content will be introduced via formal presentation and participative training techniques, using visual aids and practical exercises to confirm understanding.
